Murdered & Missing Indigenous Women's Awareness Month
At Aii, red is worn to support the solidarity of missing and murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two spirit People (MMIWG2S). Red is worn to include response in the "Red Dress Project" which is an art installation and movement designed to bring visibility to critical issues of MMIWG2S.
MMIWG2S is a crisis that Aii along with other organizations, agencies and individuals to raise awareness about this national emergency
The National Indigenous Women's Resource Center has provided a MMIW Toolkit for families and communities. It is "designed to assist families, communities and advocacy organizations in understanding and responding to a case of a missing or murdered Native woman." APRIL WOMEN'S HEALTH
Let us not forget about women's health that is also prominent in April. From breastcancer to cardiovascular diseases to having a child, information and resources flood the internet. Take a journey with us as we will be looking at events that are happening in Alaska as well as organizations offering assistance or screenings available. There is a lot out there but we are here to bring you the most reliable, pertinent resources.
October- Breast cancer awareness month
In October, we bring awareness to one of the most diagnosed cancer among women It is estimated that in 2021 there will be about 30% of newly diagnosed breast cancers in women. As of January 2021, according to the American Cancer Institute, there are more than 3.8 million women in the U.S. with a history of breast cancer which includes women currently being treated and those who have completed their treatments. So join us in commending all these women and all women around the world with education and resources provided by Ladies FIRST Alaska Breast and Cervical Services.
